Capsicum Rice with Leftover Rice/Dodda Menshinkai Rice

Hello all, ever worried or confused about what to do with leftover white rice? Capsicum Rice with Leftover Rice?

Also have got few capsicums or Bell Peppers in the fridge?

So here I come up with a simple breakfast rice recipe.

I heard that the rice cooked night before has got many nutritional values in it.

That is why people in the olden days used to eat leftover rice with curd as breakfast before they go out to any work so that they’ll be filled until lunch:-).

Also, Capsicums are very rich in vitamin C than lemons.

Capsicums shouldn’t be cooked for a longer time, it should be just sauteed for few minutes to maintain their crunch.

Now let’s go into the detailed step by step procedure to make this quick and easy yummilicious capsicum rice


  • Leftover Rice-2 cups
  • Capsicum/Bell Pepper-2 medium-sized
  • Onion/Ullipaya/Eerulli-1 or 2 (According to your like for onion)
  • Cloves/Lavangam/lavanga-4
  • Cinnamon/Dalchinachekka/Chekke-1 inch stick
  • Cardamom/Elakkaya/Elakki-1
  • Ginger Garlic Paste-1 teaspoon
  • Curry Leaves/Karivepaku/Karibevsoppu-1 sprig
  • Turmeric powder-1/2 Teaspoon
  • Chilly Powder-1 Teaspoon (Adjust according to your taste, I like on spicier side)
  • Coriander Powder-1/2 Teaspoon
  • Oil-2 Teaspoons
  • Salt -As required.

Procedure for Capsicum Rice with Leftover Rice/Dodda Menshinkai Rice

  1. Finely Chop capsicum and onions and keep them aside.
  2. Heat a pan and add in oil.
  3. Once the oil is hot add cloves, cinnamon, cardamom and saute for a minute.
  4. Now add ginger garlic paste, curry leaves and fry until the raw smell goes off. Be Careful as it splutters, cover with a lid until splutters reduce.
  5. Once the raw smell reduces, add in chopped onions and fry until translucent by adding a little salt to it.
  6. Now add turmeric powder, chilly powder, coriander powder and fry until combined. Cover the lid and cook for 3 minutes.
  7. Once the spices are fried well, add chopped capsicum and fry for 5 minutes. Most importantly capsicum shouldn’t lose its crunch.
  8. Now add in the rice, salt and mix well.

Tadaaaaa!!!!! Capsicum Rice with Leftover Rice/Dodda Manshinaki Rice is Ready to serve.
